The most standout characters of the novel are Jordanna Levitt, the wildly beautiful daughter of a powerful producer and legendary movie star mother. Cheryl Landers, a sassy, leggy redhead, who is equally idle. She was the studio honcho’s daughter destined for infamy as the Hollywood Madam. Grant Lennon, the son of the last generation's wildly handsome icon, is a junior agent at International Artists Agents. Bobby Rush, a son of a screen idol, is the ambitious and talented actor/producer, who only has his Hollywood Royalty lineage working against him; Kennedy Chase, the blonde and brilliant young widow and journalist who puts the pieces together before the cops found out and Michael Scorsinni, the street-smart ex-NYPD detective who is doomed to traverse the country until he finds his kidnapped daughter.
The story I like most from this novel is when finally Kennedy met Michael and admitted their love for each other. They both have been forced to know each other but they denied it until they met in one occasion that was not planned before. There, they began to know each other better, investigated the murderer case together, and finally felt in love each other. I think their love story is different from other love story. It was an intriguing love story in the middle of Hollywood’s stars.
There is a part of the story that is confusing me. It was the part when Michael tried to search for his daughter. He was a detective. He could accomplish many cases but why he cannot resolve his own case. He was even tricked by a stranger who didn’t even have an experience in tricking someone. It is strange for me.
The part that I don’t like most from the story is when Michael was informed that the daughter he loved much, he was looking for, and made him about to crazy because losing her, was not his real daughter. The worst thing is that she was the daughter of his ex-wife and her love affair who was his best friend. I think this part is so annoying me.
If I would an author, I would reduce some part of the story, such as when Luca and his two body guards, Reno and Bosco, was searching and testing for the call-girls. This part only tells about sex. I think it just makes the story too long but have no big role in developing the story. Also, there are too many characters that mean nothing to the story in the novel, so I think both characters can be eliminated.
The largest issue of the story is about the glamour live of Hollywood’s kids. It seems to show that the movie business, crime, sex, & Hollywood are the irresistible combination. They're Hollywood kids. Sons and daughters of stars and producers, partners in privilege, living out the American dream--until a murderer stalks them, and everyone's lives are changed forever.
After reading the novel, I try to compare the live of Hollywood kids with the live Indonesian movie stars’ kids. What happen with some of Indonesian movie stars’ kids, in my opinion, was not too different from Hollywood’s kids since our culture is not as free as American culture. We often hear that many of them are getting into trouble because they are lack of parents’ attention. It even can be seen since they were children, such as what have happened to Abdul Qodir Jailani, son of Ahmad Dhani. It is also what caused those Hollywood’s kids got into trouble. It’s because their parent were too busy with their own life.
The lesson I got from this novel is it’s not wrong to become popular but we must still think who we are. Especially for parent, they may be as popular as they want or as busy as bee, but they must think about their children. It was just like Jordana’s father who thinks he can make his daughter happy with only giving her money, while someone said that wherever there's money and glamour, trouble can't be too far behind. It was also proven in the part when Bobby rush get into trouble because of money.
