SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT / CONCORD
  

TEORI 
Concord adalah kesesuaian antara subjek kalimat dengan kata kerja (predikat) kalimat tersebut. Jika suatu kalimat memiliki subjek tunggal (singular) maka kata kerja (predikat) kalimat tersebut harus tunggal (singular) juga. Dan jika suatu kalimat memiliki subjek jamak (plural), maka kata kerja (predikat) kalimat tersebut juga harus jamak (plural).

3.      Ungkapan berikut tidak mempengaruhi hubungan subjek dengan predikat

4.      Jika Subject dan Predicat dibatasi oleh prepositional phrase (sekelompok kata yang dimulai dengan preposition/kata depan), prepositional phrase itu tidak mempengaruhi hubungan subjek dengan predikat.

1.      The effects of this medicine are very well to make people feel asleep
2.      Theorieson Pancasila have been considered good by Indonesian people
3.      The ideas in the book are very superb and inspiring

5.      Berikut adalah kata benda yang mempunyai bentuk jamak (plural) tidak beraturan

12.  Kalimat yang dimulai dengan there, subjeknya muncul setelah verb/to be

13.  Either/Neither/Not only/both

-          Either … or … (salah satu)
-          Not only … but also … (tidak hanya tapi juga)
-          Neither … nor … (tidak keduanya)
-          Both … and … (keduanya)

Yang dianggap subjek adalah noun yang terdekat dengan verbnya.

1.      Either Anang or his friends plays football every week
2.      Not only we but also Fazrin likes swimming

14.  Every, Each, Each of (diikuti plural) tapi dianggap singular

1.      Every student is ready for national examination
2.      Each of the students has left the classroom

Pada kalimat nomor 2, each of diikuti oleh plural, tapi dianggap singular

15.  Neither of dan Either of (diikuti plural) tapi dianggap singular

1.      Neither of the pens is good. (tidak satupun pulpen yang bagus)
2.      Either of the parents is sad now. (salah satu dari orang tua sedih sekarang)
